Avandia Attorneys Can Help Those Injured by Diabetes Drugs

Avandia Attorneys Can Help Those Injured by Diabetes Drugs

As a popular prescription used in the treatment of type II diabetes, Rosiglitazone comes in three different forms. The first form is called Avandia. This particular therapy contains Rosiglitazone by itself. However, the other two products come combined with other medications that are designed to maintain and control blood sugar levels for those living with type II diabetes. Another version is called Avandament, and it is combined with metformin, which is actually the world’s most popular diabetes therapy. The other version goes by the name of Avandaryl, and it contains glimepiride. Unfortunately, according to many qualified Avandia attorneys, consistent scientific studies have shown that these treatments cause very painful side effects.

If you or anyone you know has ever taken any of the medications listed above, or is taking them right now, seek medical assistance and Avandia attorneys if any of the following side effects surface:

  • Upper respiratory infections (similar to a flu or cold)
  • Headaches
  • Unusual swelling or weight gain from edema (or Avandia fluid retention)
  • Decreased effectiveness of birth control regimens
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Dark urine
  • Loss of appetite
  • Unusual or unexplained tiredness
  • Yellow skin or whites of the eyes

These are the side effects shown in two recent studies of diabetes type II patients taking the medicines. The first study was released in 2007 in the New England Journal of Medicine, a respected, peer-reviewed journal that covers important medical issues. The study showed conclusively that the medications from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) were positively associated with the debilitating maladies.

Another study released in the same year also showed that the Rosiglitazone side effects may include painful and dangerous deteriorating bones, also known as osteoporosis. In fact, the results showed that a high percentage of women taking the drugs, especially those that were postmenopausal, developed unnaturally high occurrences of broken bones, mostly in the hands, feet, and arms.

Because of these issues, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has required that GlaxoSmithKline label each package with black box warnings. These are the strongest warnings that can be placed on packaging distributed in the United States. If these medications are shown to have more severe side effects, or if more evidence is found link the drugs to these issues, the drugs may be recalled and GSK will be forced to cease production.

Again, if you have ever taken the medicines listed above, and are feeling ill, contact your health care professional immediately. If your doctor or physician affirms in writing that you have any of the issues outlined above, and confirms that they may have been caused by the diabetes therapy you were taking, you may be eligible to join an existing lawsuit or begin your own. There are a number of experienced Avandia attorneys available to help you gain the recompense you are owed.
