Drug Alert: The Levaquin Information You Should Know

Included Is Levofloxacin Dosage And Cipro And Noroxin Side Effects

In recent months, a popular type of potent antibiotic has been prominent in the media; these reports include a wide variety of Levaquin information, including notes about side effects and lawsuits. The drug is more generically known as levofloxacin, and is prescribed for several very common bacterial infections such as pneumonia, skin rashes, and bronchitis. More specifically, it is marketed under a number of prescription names from several different pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. The brand in question is marketed by Ortho-McNeil, a division of the chemical and health care giant Johnson & Johnson. Other frequently prescribed versions include Cipro, Avelox, Floxin, Noroxin, and Maxaquin.

Large groups of doctors, lawyers, and other consumer advocates have recently united to alert patients of the serious and often painful side effects to treatment involving the medication. Part of the Levaquin information they are releasing features details about the varying degrees of side effects that have been reported. Many patients do not react strongly to the drug, and show symptoms no worse than the common flu. These include:

  • Diarrhea of varying degrees
  • Restlessness, anxiousness, and depression
  • Headache and dizziness
  • Muscle pain, fatigue, or exhaustion
  • Sleep problems from insomnia or nightmares
  • Mild skin itching
  • Fever
    • Sore throat

Unfortunately, studies have shown that these issues are simply the tip of the iceberg. As reports continue to accumulate, it is becoming increasingly clear that levofloxacin-based medications are responsible for a host of other problems, especially in older, more sedentary victims. Adverse reactions typically revolve around a characteristic buildup of fluid in or around a joint, or the tendons that connect muscles to the bones that they move. While some people may experience only mild aches and pains related to this liquid accumulation, a large portion of victims developed one or more of the following ailments and maladies.

    • Achilles tendon tenderness, pain, or rupture
    • Biceps aches
    • Burning or painful thumbs
    • Sore rotator cuffs (shoulders)
    • Abnormal heart rhythms

The issues listed above are difficult to treat, and often leave victims unable to walk or move properly, sometimes for several months. Since ruptured tendons often rerupture, there is also the distinct possibility that patients will face similar or identical problems for the rest of their lives.

Advocacy groups suggest that patients take precautions, when they are prescribed any of these levofloxacin drugs. Get plenty of rest and fluids, and be sure to contact a healthcare professional immediately if you experience any of the Levaquin side effects described above. Ask questions, and obtain as much Levaquin information as possible. Even the milder, flu-like symptoms can be an indication that more several issues are likely.

If you are diagnosed with tendonitis, abnormal heart rhythms, or any other side effects that your doctor says are the result of treatment with faulty antibiotics, contact a lawyer immediately. There are many different lawsuits currently pending against the pharmaceutical companies responsible for distributing potentially dangerous medications. Contacting an attorney now increases your chances of obtaining any recompense you are due under the law.
