Learn about the Risks Associated with Prempro
Hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, is one choice for women that are
experiencing the persistent and painful maladies associated with low
estrogen levels. In order to address the imbalance, HRT medications
such as Prempro, Premarin, and Estrace seek to mimic natural
chemicals found throughout the body, boosting hormone levels with
pills, estrogen cream, and other methods. Hysterectomies,
ovarian cancer and other complications of the ovaries, and menopause
can call cause this drastic change to occur. Symptoms of this common
chemical imbalance include, but are not limited to the following:
Hot flashes Vaginal
dryness Vaginal
burning Vaginal
irritation
The popular drug Prempro was designed by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals
to address these problems. By collecting estrogen from various places
in nature, they created a pill that mimics those that naturally occur
within the normal human female. Interestingly, most of the natural
estrogen originally came from pregnant horses. However, as the
medication became more popular and was prescribed by more doctors,
many patients began reporting painful, sometimes deadly, side
effects.
The range of issues and complications arising from regular
Prempro use is quite wide. Some are merely annoying, while
others can plague women with pain for years. Commonly reported
non-lethal problems include, but are not limited to:
Breast pain and unusual swelling Abdominal
pain from “bloating” or atypical fluid retention Mild
headaches and dizziness Decreased
sex drive Increased
amounts of acne and hair growth
However, the fact that the situations listed above are non-lethal
does not mean that they are not indicators of larger, more deadly
problems lurking beneath or in the future with respect to Prempro.
While many women will not experience them, but a serious concern for
women who take Prempro is that they could be at an increased risk for
the following:
Note that the risk of cancer is generally, though not always,
associated with oral estrogens such as Prempro, rather than vaginal
creams. Typically, the increased risk does not occur until after 4 or
more years of constant HRT therapy. Of course, this is not always
true, and some women may develop problems sooner. Some patients may
experience no adverse effects at all. Also note that the ailments
listed above can plague women for as long as they continue to take
the medication.
If you or anyone you know has ever taken Prempro or any of the other
drugs listed above, and are feeling unwell, be sure to contact a
doctor right away. Once you obtain verified documentation of your
pain and suffering, team with a qualified injury attorney with
experience in drug injuries. Don't wait. Failure to discover and
secure your legal rights as soon as possible could result in missing
out on monetary, or other forms of compensation to which you have a
legal right.
