Denture Cream Injury? A Lawyer Can Help Compensate You.

Fixodent And PoliGrip Use Zinc Which With Overuse Can Cause Denture Cream Injury

Most people use a variety of products from the drug store on a daily basis, assuming that these have been regularly tested and are proven to be safe. Unfortunately, this is not always true. In recent months, two of the largest drug companies in the world, GlaxoSmithKline and Proctor & Gamble, have come under scientific and legal scrutiny due to the customers reporting denture cream injury. The problem involves an ingredient found in their Fixodent denture cream and PoliGrip adhesive offerings.

The metal zinc is used as an ingredient in these pastes for two reasons. First, it is an effective bonding agent, so it holds dental prosthetics firmly in place, against the gum line. Second, it is added because of its effectiveness at controlling odor. These two main benefits make it a perfect candidate for a dental bonding ingredient. However, it may also be the cause of denture cream injury.

Some customers use the creams sparingly because they have dental prosthetics that fit snugly in their mouths. These kinds of buyers often use a tube every three weeks or so. Other people, typically those with less money that cannot regularly visit their dentists and have another set of dentures crafted from scratch, use more than average to secure their loose prosthetics. People in this situation may end up using two or three tubes in a single week, which, according to some victims and scientists, leads to some very painful neurological problems.

Of course, if you are feeling sick or ill, or unable to complete your daily tasks, you should probably contact a doctor. And, in fact, symptoms may initially seem like the flu, as a zinc overdose can cause nausea and vomiting. But take a look at these more obvious, and more painful associated side effects. If you are exhibiting any of these, seek medical attention as quickly as possible, as it may be a sign of zinc poisoning, possibly contracted from the products offered by GlaxoSmithKline or Proctor & Gamble.

• Numbness in extremities, especially legs

• Tingling in extremities, especially legs

• Loss of balance

• Loss of feeling or sensation

• Unexplained pain anywhere in the body

• Decreased or shrunken walking stride

• Increased falling or stumbling

• Loss of strength in legs or feet

The Food and Drug Administration is requiring that these adhesives carry larger warnings about the risks of potential problems. But you may deserve more under the law, because your suffering may be the result of an oral adhesive purchased in good faith. It is possible that you can partake in a lawsuit happening right now, designed to obtain recompense from the companies responsible.

Victims allege that the manufacturers failed consumers in several ways by:

• Not adequately warning customers about potential risks

• Not adequately examining the dangers associated with regular use over time

• Not properly labeling products about the existence of metallic ingredients

Though the companies have agreed to begin providing more effective warnings on labels, this may be too late for those who have already suffered harm due to this lack of knowledge. Victims allege that if they had known about the potential risks of overuse, their health problems could have been prevented. Some of these are now confined to wheelchairs for the rest of their lives.

If your doctor diagnoses you with zinc poisoning, contact a Fixodent or PoliGrip lawyer immediately. An attorney can help you determine if your situation is appropriate for litigation, and if so, will be able to help you secure any compensation you are owed. A directory like LegalTube will be able to aid you in finding a law firm experienced in these kinds of cases.
