Law Firm Overview
Over 85 years ago, our founder J. King Harness set forth a simple but powerful philosophy: Our client is our trusted business partner. This philosophy has been passed down through generations of Harness Dickey attorneys. We never compromise on thoroughness or responsiveness to client needs.
Since 1921, Harness Dickey has guided thousands of clients, in all sectors of business and technology, of all sizes, ranging from FORTUNE 500® companies to individual inventors, authors, and entrepreneurs, in all aspects of intellectual property matters.
We invite you to become one of our trusted business partners.
FIRM HISTORY
In 1921, Jake Harness founded a legal practice devoted exclusively to patent and trademark protection. He opened an office on the tenth floor of Detroit’s tallest skyscraper, the Majestic. Four years later, Art Dickey and Hodgson Pierce came aboard as partners and the three devoted their lifetimes to growing the firm. The bedrock values and policies that the founding partners brought from their small-town backgrounds still prevail at the firm today.
Having opened offices in St. Louis in 2000, and in metropolitan Washington, DC the following year, the firm has since grown to open a fourth office in Portland, Oregon. Harness Dickey is a cooperative team of attorneys and staff, working closely with clients to provide quality service, and protect assets on a global scale.
Industries
If you are choosing a firm to build your patent portfolio, there is one thing you should know about Harness Dickey. Founded in 1921, Harness Dickey has over 100 patent attorneys representing every technical discipline, and actually writes an average of 1500 original patent applications per year. Other firms simply file what they are given, but Harness Dickey attorneys know how to take your invention disclosure, from the back of a paper napkin if necessary, and turn it into an issued patent.
Of course, Harness Dickey also knows how to prosecute applications based on previously filed foreign applications. Our international clients, for whom we file and prosecute an additional 2500 applications per year, appreciate our unique expertise. We understand technology. Thus we can help our international clients build the same kind of top-quality patent portfolios that our U.S. clients enjoy.
Quite simply, Harness Dickey has the technical and legal experience you need to build a world class patent portfolio for your company. Let us show you how.
