Avandia Law Firms Helping Those Harmed by the Diabetic Drug
As a popular prescription drug
used in the treatment of type II diabetes, Rosiglitazone comes in three
different forms. The brand name therapy contains Rosiglitazone by itself.
However, the other two prescription medications come combined with other drugs
that are designed to maintain and control blood sugar levels for those living
with type II diabetes. One version is called Avandamet, and it is combined with
metformin, which is actually the world’s most popular diabetes drug. The other
version goes by the name of Avandaryl, and it contains glimepiride.
Unfortunately, according to many qualified Avandia law firms, consistent
scientific study has shown that these treatments may cause very painful side
effects. If you or anyone you know has
ever taken any of the diabetes medications listed above, you should seek
medical attention if any of the following side effects surface: - Upper
respiratory infections (similar to a flu or cold)
- Headaches
- Unusual
swelling or weight gain from irregular fluid accumulation (edema)
- Decreased
effectiveness of birth control regimens
- Nausea
and vomiting
- Stomach
pain
- Dark
urine
- Loss
of appetite
- Unusual
or unexplained tiredness
- Yellow
skin or whites of the eyes
These are the side effects
shown in two recent studies of diabetics taking the drugs. The first study was
released in 2007 in the New England Journal of Medicine, a respected,
peer-reviewed journal that covers important medical issues. The study showed
conclusively that the medications from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) are positively
correlated with the debilitating maladies. Another study released in the
same year also showed that the Rosiglitazone
side effects might include painful bone deterioration, also known as
osteoporosis. In fact, the results showed that a high percentage of women
taking the medicines, especially those that were postmenopausal, developed
unnaturally high occurrences of broken bones, mostly in the hands, feet, and
arms. Because of these issues, the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has required that GlaxoSmithKline label each
package with black box warnings. These are the strongest warnings that can be
placed on packaging distributed in the United States. If the Rosiglitazone
products are shown to have more severe side effects, or if more evidence is
found to link the drugs to these issues, the drugs may be recalled and GSK will
be forced to cease production. Again, if you have ever taken
the medications listed above, and are feeling ill, contact a health care
professional immediately. If your doctor or physician affirms in writing that
you have any of the issues outlined above, and confirms that they may have been
caused by the diabetes therapy you are taking, you may be eligible to join an
existing lawsuit or begin your own. To determine the recompense that you may be
owed, contact one of our top attorneys immediately.
