Chinese Drywall Victims Requesting Assistance From White House

Chinese Drywall Victims Requesting Assistance From White House

Federal, State, and local building codes across the nation require that contractors not only use the right materials for the job, but also the right process to install those materials, and thus keep homeowners safe. Some of these regulations allow for the regular use of wallboard in homes, offices, other professional buildings, and even trailers across the country. In the past, the product has proven itself to be cheap, easy to work with, and very safe. But some recent Chinese drywall victims are coming forward, and asking the government to help them with toxic materials in their buildings.

A typical drywall manufacturer  creates huge sheets of product using gypsum powder, a common element that is perfectly safe as long as it is contained within the product. This gypsum is then combined with other materials that are designed to make the board stronger, or more reliable. For example, flame retardant chemicals are often added, to make it safer in the presence of heat and flame. Other fibrous materials are added to reduce the effects of dampness and moisture, and make the boards stronger. However, after a large shipment of wallboard from China, it is obvious that not all manufacturers are interested in safety.

This recent shipment of building materials from China contained materials that are not only harming the inhabitants of the offices and buildings, but are also damaging the very interiors of the structures themselves. Those affected all report very similar experiences. The air around the faulty products smells like rotten eggs, especially when it rains or is damp, due to the toxic hydrogen sulfide fumes. Their electronic items don’t last as long and their pipes turn black. This is because the fumes corrode the metals within the wires and wall, increasing the likelihood of failure or dangerous shorts and pipe bursting.

Physical symptoms of bad drywall include:

  • “Rotten egg” smell

  • Sore throat and cough

  • Nausea

  • Fluid in the lungs

  • Fatigue

  • Loss of appetite

  • Dizziness

  • Headaches

If you or someone you know has any of the symptoms listed above, contact a doctor immediately, and have your injuries documented. Also be sure to have your home examined. And, finally, contact a qualified legal professional to help you determine your rights under the law. Failure to obtain proper documentation of your physical ailments, or the damage done to your home and appliances, may cause you to miss out on a monetary reward that you are legally entitled to.

Since they have had so much trouble getting help from the manufacturers of the faulty products, these injured citizens are looking to the White House for help. They want to be compensated for their troubles, and they’re looking for support from the government to make sure they get it. The other reason is that the victims want more stringent testing methods for imported building materials, so that no one else has to goes through what they have suffered.
