You May Be Entitled to Compensation If You Have Been Diagnosed with PoliGrip Nerve Damage

Fixodent Or Poligrip Nerve Damage Is The Result Of Too Much Zinc In Your Body

GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of the popular line of PoliGrip dental adhesive products, are currently the subject of media, legal, and academic scrutiny. Their popular line of denture creams, pastes, and strips has been directly linked to neuropathy and other painful neurological problems. Because GlaxoSmithKline has failed to provide long-time customers with any labeling or warning information related to possible side effects, the drug giant is defending itself against a large number of both personal and class action lawsuits.

Scientific studies have shown, and victims are experiencing, that regular use of the product line is associated with PoliGrip nerve damage. In fact, the dental bonding agents have been directly linked to various debilitating neurological problems, including copper deficiencies, zinc poisoning, neuropathy, and others. While the drug company maintains that their products are completely safe when used correctly, victims and opponents assert that there should have been warnings and labels on the product packaging indicating that some people could develop lifelong illnesses.

There are a wide variety of symptoms associated with this condition. Some people have very extreme, painful reactions to zinc toxicity, ending up in constant pain for the rest of their lives. Others experience much less painful symptoms, although they may still lose vital faculties. Many people lose their sense of balance, for example, ending up in wheelchairs for the rest of their lives.

Some common symptoms include:

• Numbness in extremities, especially legs

• Tingling in extremities, especially legs

• Loss of balance

• Loss of feeling or sensation

• Unexplained pain anywhere in the body

• Decreased or shrunken walking stride

• Increased falling or stumbling

• Loss of strength in legs or feet

These problems are not obvious in every case, sometimes taking years to manifest. The reason for this is simple: the levels of the metal within the body have to become high enough to cause problems. But not every customer uses the same amount of product on their dentures. Those with dentures that fit snugly in the mouth, for example, tend to use relatively little product. People can use as little as one tube every 10 weeks. On the other hand, those with dental prosthetics that do not fit well can use as many as two tubes per week.

All of the symptoms described above are obvious signs of a zinc overdose. High levels in the body causes a depletion of copper, which leads to painful neurological damage. Many dental pastes contain high levels of the substance for two reasons. The first reason is that zinc is an effective bonding agent, so it effectively holds dentures against the gums. But it is also an effective odor-controlling agent, a very valuable attribute for people wearing prosthetic teeth.

As with any other medical issue, contact your doctor immediately if you think you exhibit any of the symptoms listed above. If your doctor says your problems may be the result of regular denture cream use, call a lawyer immediately. You may be able to pursue GlaxoSmithKline in a personal or class action lawsuit.
